James Robinson, Sterling Gates and Gnome: One of these things is not like the other
Sunday, June 13, 2010 at 9:19AM Well June 12 was just like any other day, a lovely Saturday full of heat and humidity, but there was an excitement in the air around town (OK just the comic geeks around town). Shooter and I made our way down to Speeding Bullet Comics to bum around and wait for one of the events that every fan waits for, a Creator Signing. Not only was there a signing, it was a signing by two of the best writers in comics today. Sterling Gates is a local guy, SBC is his home store so him coming in to sign was a bit of a home coming, and hot off the heels of War of the Supermen a victorious one. James Robinson is one of the best in the business and this Gnome has been following his work for years from Starman to Leave it to Chance to JLA to the aformentioned War of the Supermen. These two men are at the top of the game right now and we were going to be blessed with their presence (ok so that is a bit of overstatement but it was really cool).
The line started forming around 2pm, a TV tried its hardest to let us watch the US/UK match, the waiting area started to warm up after about 15 or so people got in line. Shooter and I were taging in and out of line so we could cool off in the Fully A/C'ed area of the store. Free drinks were provided and there was some pretty awesome swag given away, because lets face it any kind of swag is awesome. Around 3 Mr. Robinson and Mr. Gates (man that sounds like a couple of CIA agents..) came out to the line talked a little bit about the behind the scenes things on WoS, (by the way Sterling if you are reading this I want to hear what you guys were going to do with Batman and the Kryptonite Gauntlets) and then the line began to move. A pretty good pace was kept and both men were very nice to everyone who came up, even taking a moment to take a picture with some weird Gnome for his silly internet blog.
Gnome, Sterling and James: Agents of Hmmm? I want to say thanks for both guys coming out and taking some time with their fans and making that connection that keeps this hobby something special.
Till next time I'm still Gnome and this is my Tail
